5TH GRADE JAM PERMISSION SLIPS ARE DUE!
Please be sure to send in the permission slip for your child to be able attend the 5th grade jam. Only students with signed permission slips will be dismissed from their class right after school to join their friends in the Cafeteria for the "cool" festivities! Parents, please join us at 4:15 to watch the DVD dedicated to our 5th grade graduating class!! All students attending the jam must be picked up from the sidewalk right outside the cafeteria by 4:30 p.m.
SPECIAL EVENTS DAY:
Special Events is right around the corner on April 29th. If you would like to volunteer please contact Kristin McCabe at mccabe100@comcast.net. It is going to be a great day for the children with Operation Safe Kids to be conducted for the day. The Secret Service, Federal Investigators and other Law Enforcement personnel will be on hand to give talks to the students and demonstrate the latest technologies.
One of the opportunities your child will have is to be fingerprinted and produce a document for your personal records. You will be receiving a permission slip this week in the Thursday papers to have your child fingerprinted. We must have the signed consent form back no later than April 28th. If we do not have one for your child he or she will not be fingerprinted on that day. Please keep in mind that NO FINGERPRINTS WILL BE STORED IN A DATABASE. These will be for your personal records.
EARTH HOUR - SATURDAY MARCH 27th, 8:30 pm
Join millions of kids and families all around our planet for Earth Hour 2010.  Go to earthhourkids.org and pledge your commitment to turn off all unnecessary lights for one hour.
Our family will most likely be playing a game called Sardines.  Where all the lights in the house are turned off and 1 person hides.  Then everyone tries to find them.  As each person does, they hide with them (hence “Sardines”).  The game continues until the last seeker finds them.  We play they whole house and give the younger kids flashlights in case they get scared.  The bigger the group the better so have a neighbor or 2 over to play!
What will you be doing?  Let us know at FO-ECO@comcast.net and we will post your ideas.
International Fine Arts Night
This year's International Fine Arts Night will be Thursday, April 1st from 6-8. We are currently looking for all families and students who would like to participate by representing a country. This may be your native country, your ancestors’ country, or just a country that you happen to be very interested in. We encourage all kinds of participation in the Fine Arts, (Food not included), such as displays of photos, clothes, instruments, costumes, books, crafts...etc. You may also share videos of dance and music. These are only ideas. Be creative! The gym will be the location of our International Village and the evening will also highlight a gallery of our children's artwork along the school hallways arranged by our wonderful art teachers Mrs. Andrews and Ms. Cavanaughs. You also don’t want to miss 3rd grade’s musical performance in the cafeteria.

We are also looking for any parents that are artistically inclined and would like to have their artwork displayed in the Adult Gallery.

So if you are interested in participating in any way, please contact us and tell us your name, your student’s name, grade, and the country you would like to represent.

Thank you. We are looking forward to a wonderful evening! Come out and share your international flair!

Theme is "Fueling the Road to Success" - focus on abilities , not disabilities, our strengths not our weaknesses.  Each  student will receive a pencil with animal eraser and a coupon for a free Carvel ice cream.

Thank you to the PTA for being so generous and helping make this week a success.  Some activities include a poster display, EC bulletin board, K-9 assembly  for 1st grade, short videos on AM  show and closed circuit  about exceptional people.  Teachers are provided packets with Educational activities related to the theme.

Reflections 2009
It's time to get excited about the National PTA Reflections Art Program! Reflections is an arts recognition program that provides children in pre-K through grade 12 with the opportunity to express themselves through the arts. Now it its 40th year, Reflections attracts an average of 70,000 participants from across the country. This is a great opportunity for your children to express themselves creatively and received positive recognition for original works of art. Plus,  students who contribute an original piece of art receive a fun prize! Winning submissions (as determined by "judges" from the community) may go on to higher levels of the competition, such as county, state and hopefully national!  "Judges" from the community include librarians, professional musicians, dancers, artists and photographers. All judging is based on grade level.

The theme for this year's contest is "What is beauty..."  For additional information click here:
